Fall Foliage 2011

 

Some days are just plain excellent y'know?  Driving around the mountains of Western North Carolina is a simple and inexpensive way to enjoy the great outdoors.  I highly recommend making time to take a closer look at the beauty that surrounds us.  Never take for granted the simple things in life, especially the power and beauty of nature itself.

At left is an amazing view of the Blue Ridge Parkway, a favorite hangout of mine.  You can actually see where the road cuts around the bend just up ahead.  At right, is the infamous Graveyard Fields and the waterfalls that are visible from the Parkway.  Some areas are already at their peak, while other areas are just getting started and apparently have a great deal to say!

Every overlook is different and each display of color is unique to its elevation and location.  If there hasn't been a hard freeze, then the colors are still very rich and vibrant.  At the higher elevations of 5000 feet and above, the leaves are nearly dropped from the trees completely.  However, drop down a few hundred feet and the display is spectacular.

 

The image on the left was taken from Highway 215 which leads you right up to the Parkway.  This is one of those areas where the leaves are at their peak.  And if you REALLY want an amazing show of color, take Hwy 64 from Brevard to Lake Toxaway.  You'll find yourself wanting to pull over and just take in the beauty!

Not only did I get a lot of great shots this past weekend, but also have quite a few Fall Foliage images to share with everyone.  I'd almost bet money that at least one of these images will make the 2012 Calendar.
